HM.Lin lab has the profession in the research fields of nano biotechnology, biomedical materials, intelligent drug delivery, nano drug delivery, biomedical nano images, green chemistry, material chemistry, phosphor, marine active substances, marine biotechnology development, algae extraction.
Intelligent drug delivery system, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) is what we use for research. MSNs owns attractive features such as ordered mesoporous arrangement, high specific surface area, large pore volume, adjustable pore size and modifiable surface. With these advantages we can mix MSNs with optical and magnetic elements to empower MSNs with tracking ability, and after modify MSNs with targeting and release control molecules, we then accomplish a new non-invasive intelligent drug delivery system with tracking and multifunction.
About the multifunctional bone repair system, mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG) is the material we use for this researching field. MBG is made of calcium, phosphorus, it is a material for bone repair. Inherit the advantages of mesoporous silica materials, MBG can be further process to become a multi-functional deliverable drug bone repair system with specific targeted drug treatments and non-invasive detection tracking.
Functional materials for biological resources/waste conversion, common substances around the life, such as the shell is rich in high proportion of calcium carbonate, the special pattern of silica pore structure of the algae itself, and the high content of silica in the rice husk, which can be further modified by the purification process. Functionally recycled materials give value to resources that can be used more efficiently.
Recently, we are working on the combination of nanoparticles and algae polysaccharides. Extracted algae polysaccharide was identified and analyze its quantity and quality. Hopefully we can combine those polysaccharides with MSNs for further medical research.
Experimental organisms like cultured cells, algae, nude mouse and zebra fish is the main experimental organism used in this laboratory.
